10 – 18 JULY 2020 / 7 DAYS FULL TIME + / Structured around group and individual sessions on Zoom / See details / £550

“A brilliant, bonkers week packed with world-class teaching and a well-rounded curriculum covering all we needed and more, resulting in a proper, touching show. Highly recommended.”

Roll up!  Roll Up! for…

The Quixotic Circus!  Brighton Puppetry School’s Summer Intensive 2021.

7 days of learning and playing together (even though we’ll be apart – we’ll be running the course on Zoom) immersed in the amazing art of puppetry….

Marvel at the lions, barely tamed! Swoon at dare-devillish knife throwing! Giggle at a trained bird chorus! Goggle at the Strong Man. Roar at gravity defying acrobatics! Shout from the sidelines at Punch, crocodiles and sausages!
And help us solve the mystery of the missing Ringmaster’s Hat!
They won’t call it the Greatest Show on Earth for nothing!

Bringing together all 3 stands of our training approach  –  Puppetry Performance, Puppet Making and Creation with Puppetry. Workshops will focus on a wide and exciting range of puppet skills and puppet forms.

– Core puppetry (Puppetry Fundamentals);
– Making effective puppet scenes:  action, rhythm and surprises;
– Storytelling with puppets;
– Working visually and working with text;
– Individual and collective puppet making – humanettes, glove puppets, and more;
– Object animation;
– The magic of shadow worlds;
– Puppetry direction;
– Puppet scenography;
– Working together (multi operator work) even though we’re not with each other in the same space.

Unique to this year, we will be offering 1-2-1 mentoring structured into the course so you can make the most of the opportunity’s impact on your puppetry potential, and there will be a special optional session on using film with puppets.

“I also learned so much from the other participants due to the range of skills that you invited in, so picked up even more new knowledge/confidence.”

10 – 16th July – Full time and including some evening working / socialising
17th July  – Optional puppets and film session plus 1 to 1s.
18th July  – Broadcast premiere of the Quixotic Circus (evening GMT)

Cost: £550 (payments by instalment available – please just ask)

To Apply: Please email us with an expression of interest outlining your background (the course will be tailored to support a range of participants from beginner to expert).
