‘THE WEEKEND TAUGHT ME HOW TO TEASE APART NARRATIVE ACTION, SHOW AND TELL’
‘THE COURSE GAVE BOTH PUPPETRY AND STORYTELLING WITH TEXT AND IMAGES CAREFUL ATTENTION BEFORE BRINGING THEM TOGETHER, THANK YOU SO MUCH – I REALLY ENJOYED MYSELF AND FEEL I’VE LEARNT A LOT’
Puppets and storytelling have long gone together. They can powerfully enrich each other – but there are some pitfalls to avoid, too.
Spend a weekend with us exploring this rich territory and developing your own storytelling with puppets. The course will look specifically at the ways puppets and storytelling interact – how puppets can animate stories, and expand, complement, or even challenge their content and rhythms. We’ll play with who tells the story, and to whom; and how we can discover and change the meaning of stories in performance. We’ll investigate practical performance techniques and options for combining the two forms for the solo performer, and also look at using puppets to develop and adapt stories, and ways puppetry can inform your story writing.
The weekend will be highly practical, incorporating puppetry techniques, writing and performance skills.
Darren and Beccy run TouchedTheatre and have created three critically acclaimed touring storytelling shows in diverse formats – Me & the Sea (for children aged 6+); Blue (site specific and for adults); and The Crow Who Fell in Love with the Moon (for children aged 4+). Through their work running regular puppetry cabaret evening Punched they have created and helped to direct and edit a multitude of puppetry stories.
