27 & 28 April 2019 / Weekend / £110 / MAKING
A traditional Kentish tradition, hoodening entails the use of a wooden hobby horse mounted on a pole and carried by an individual hidden under a sackcloth. The Hooden Horse is a regional variation of a ‘hooded animal’ tradition that appears in various guises throughout the British Isles.
In this workshop you will make a hooden horse puppet complete with snapping jaws and cloth ‘hood’, using modroc, wood, fabric and paint. You will leave the course with a fully functioning Hooden Horse ready to take to the streets, we have scheduled the workshop before Hastings’ Jack in the Green Festival where your horse will be totally at home!
