8 x Tuesday Evenings 31 January – 21 March 2017 / £190 / PERFORMING / CREATING
‘I feel this has changed my life for the better, and I’m heading for my dream future of being artist AND puppeteer!’
‘The course was a complete success – right now, puppetry feels like a platform for me to explore performance, making, writing, directing, and community work’
This course will give you a supportive laboratory and workshop to put together a short (up to ten minute) puppetry performance of your own. This can be a solo piece, and it can be a stand-alone short performance or a section of a longer show.
You will be guided through a devising and rehearsal process, using a rich variety of performance skills and techniques to put together a successful short performance piece. There will be an opportunity to share this at the end of the course, in an appropriate theatre space.
We will not do major puppet making during the class, and it will probably be necessary for you to come with puppets / figures / objects you want to use, or be ready to make some quick decisions. It may be possible to borrow puppets to work with for this course, please contact us well in advance if you’re interested in this option.
The course will demand a certain amount of practice and preparation outside of the class times.
In previous outings, this course has produced a range of exciting and acclaimed new short pieces in a variety of forms (tabletop, shadow work, songs and storytelling, intimate one-to-one performance, children’s work), and as well as making the short show you will finish the course with developed devising, rehearsal and puppetry performance skills.
The course will be led by Darren East.
